My constant companion, Lady Daisy May, is one year old today! Even though it’s been a wild up & down year, it certainly seems now that it’s flown by. Lady, or Daisy, or Daisy May [take your pick — she knows them all, hee hee] is a wonderful black Labrador Retriever — friendly, quiet, easy to train, so very willing to please, & an expert swimmer.
Although Lady is full of energy & always ready to play & swim, she has provided a great calming influence in my life. She loves to cuddle & still thinks she’s small enough to sleep on my lap. One of her favourite places to snooze is curled up on my pillows behind me — when I lean back from typing, my backrest groans a bit, hee hee.
Having a dog is a kind of religious experience — we worship each other but also through our exploration of the world, we worship nature. Just seeing the joy in Daisy May’s skip as she runs free along the lake path provides me with joy — my heart is lighter & my troubles far away. As she jumps in & out of any water she comes across, her excitement is contagious. My love abounds — for her, for nature.
Lady has also been lucky to have regular visits with her sister, Princess [she also has two brothers but hasn’t since them since they were all 8-wks-old]. They have a special bond & are twin souls.
As happy an occasion this is, it also marks the death of the pups’ mother, Truffles, tomorrow, July 1st [Canada Day]. It is amazing to me that all four did so well with human “moms” who took care of all their needs. Every chance she gets, Lady still cuddles & follows the now-13-yr-old boy who fed her every day for her first two months of life. Her favourite adopted mom. I’m sure she won’t forget.
I look forward to many years of adventures with my maturing companion.
